Preparing for the Visit to the Vet: Carriers
- If possible, bring the carrier out of storage and into the cats' environment well ahead of the visit.
- Ideally, the cat should love its carrier as a dog loves its crate.
- Leave the carrier out 24/7 in a room the cat likes to sleep in.
- Take the lid off the carrier to start with if needed.
- Have the carrier lined with a thick blanket and piece of clothing or cloth.....with YOUR scent.
- Leave toys and treats and catnip in the carrier.
- A secure carrier where the top comes off for the examination is needed.
- Only one cat per carrier.
- Carrier should go in the boot well in the back seat or buckled on the seat.
- Always double-check that the carrier is secure before picking it up and carry with the handle while supporting the bottom.
- Loaner carriers are available at Central Cat Hospital for a deposit which is refunded when the carrier is returned.
